Garbage Goes Home!
(Boomerang Lunch)
In an effort to reduce the amount of waste that our school creates, we are beginning the Boomerang Lunch Program. In other words, any garbage that comes to school in your child’s lunch, will be sent back home. We will be recycling and composting everything possible. We know that you are probably asking, “Why send garbage home to be thrown out at home?” The reason for this is simple… This is to make you and your child aware of how much waste is produced in a single day, just in lunches alone. The goal is to make us all more environmentally aware. Every little bit counts! We learned today that it takes 500 years for a plastic spoon to disintegrate, but it never really goes away. We hope that families can move towards wasteless lunches by using reusable containers instead of prepackaged items (try making your own lunchables from more natural ingredients). This will create healthier kids and a healthier Earth.
Thank you for your continued support,

Pink Shirt Day 2017
For Pink Shirt Day on Tuesday, Feb 28th, Anderdon will be using the anti-bullying theme to “Heal The World”. This year, we are supporting a very special person, Paige Grossutti, in her fight against cancer. Paige is in Grade 9 at General Amherst High school, and was a student here at Anderdon for all of her elementary years. Paige always lent a helping hand wherever it was needed so we would like to now help her and her family. Her brother, Riley, is in Grade 4 at Anderdon and will be handing out pink bracelets for each student and staff member to wear on Pink Shirt Day. In return, we are asking for a donation from everyone for these bracelets to help support Powerful Paige and her family as they fight their battle against cancer. You can also show your support by wearing as much pink as possible on Tuesday, February 28th. Thanks for your support

Sunday, October 23rd, 2016- Tree planting and cleaning our yard. Thank you so much to our volunteers who came to help plant our trees and to help weed and clean up our yard! We now have a Kentucky Coffee tree, 2 Elderberry trees and a Shade Master Locus tree. We are excited to see them grow!
Schedule:
The schedule is now final. Refer to the school calendar for the 5 day cycle.
Housekeeping:
Thank you for returning note totes on a daily basis. This really helps keep our lines of communication open and encourages students to become responsible learners and citizens.
Extra clothes are vital in the event of any kind of accident. Please be sure your child always has extra clothes at school that are seasonally appropriate. On that note, please send your child to school in play clothes that are comfortable and those that you are not concerned about getting soiled. Our program is incredibly active, messy, explorative and fun-filled! Running shoes are mandatory for all physical education classes. Please ensure that your child always has running shoes at school.
Please make sure that all forms are completed and submitted by the end of the week. Forms that need to be returned are: Student Health form (white), Computer Consent form (green), Photo Consent form (blue), Health Verification form (white) and Interview form (white).
We have gorgeous pictures of your children engaged in learning to share with you! Stay tuned!
Purchases
Hot dog sales are every Friday, unless it is a PD day or holiday. In this case, hot dogs will be sold on the Thursday. The cost of one hot dog is $1.50.
Frozen yogurt is sold daily. It can be purchased in the music room from Mr. Beneteau for $3.00.
Milk order forms have been sent home. For one full card, the cost is $18, which gives the children 20 days worth of milk. Please circle the option of white or chocolate milk. The selected option will be for the duration of 20 days.
Please put any money in your child's note tote and indicate, with a note, what the money is to be used for.
Thank you for your support so far this year. We are looking forward to a very successful year in early years!
WE HAVE MANY ECO PROGRAMS AT OUR SCHOOL THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT. PLEASE HELP US BECOME MORE ECO FRIENDLY
1.) Battery Recycle - please tape ends of batteries and send them in with your child. Our school has a battery recycling bin.
2.) Bottle Cap collection - bring in any and all caps, they cannot be recycled at this time so we would like to do some activities with them. Please clean/rinse at home and bring them to school. Let's keep those caps out of the landfill.
3.) Crayola colour cycle - don't throw out your markers! Please send in your old markers, any brand to school to be sent back to Crayola to be recycled. The markers are turned into fuel! Thanks!
4.) Milk Bag collection - continue to send in all milk bags. We are helping many orphans in Haiti ❤️ when the volunteers make them into things like blankets and reusable bags.
5.) "Bring Your Own Spoon - Say NO to Plastic" Campaign- please always send in a metal/reusable spoon rather than using disposable spoons from school. If your child is ordering frozen yogurt please send them a spoon as well. Thank You :)
6.) Litterless lunch campaign - working to decrease our litter. Buying in bulk (rather than individually packaged items) saves our families' money & creates less litter. Eating healthy food (fruits & veggies) in their own biodegradable "wrappers" rather than eating plastic wrapped processed snacks is healthier for our students and the planet. Please Check out our Anderdon Eco School blog for more tips:
www.anderdonschoolecoteam.weebly.com
7.) Lights Out Lunches - we turn off our lights during lunch hour. This save an immense deal of electricity & money and decreases our pollution.
Thanks in advance for your help with all these great initiatives!

*Thank you for your generous donations! Our pantry is now full
Baking Supplies *Our Pantry Is Full*
We are in need of some help stocking our cupboards! We recently sent home a note asking for parent volunteers to come bake with us. We were excited to see that so many of you have time to come into our classrooms and help out! Other parents have asked if there was any way they could participate with our baking without having to come into the classroom, because of their busy schedules. We would love for any donations that you can provide for us to continue all of our great baking. We have been purchasing many items for all of the baking we have done so far this year, but our stock is nearly gone. If you are able to donate anything for our baking we would greatly appreciate it. Some examples of items we need are:
flour (we use lots!)
chocolate chips
sprinkles
vanilla
food colouring
butter
baking soda
We have enough baking powder, raisins, white/brown sugar, cream of tartar and salt.
Thank you in advance for your donations to our Early Years Program!
Thank you to everyone who has donated materials to our classroom! We greatly appreciate every thing that we receive. We welcome donations at any time throughout the year. We are still in need of Kleenex, and other craft items including beautiful junk.
If you have not sent in a spare set of clothes to remain at school please send them as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone who has already sent some in. Please remember to replenish the clothes as we send them home after an accident. Thanks for a fantastic start to the school year! We appreciate all of the supportive parents that we have in our classrooms!

SAFETY CONCERNS at our KISS and RIDE DROP OFF (For children who do not ride the bus)
Anderdon school is pleased to offer you a safe way to drop your children off at school. Our Kiss and Ride is available at the west end of the building outside of the Kindergarten yard. Simply enter the driveway using the middle entrance and turn left. A teacher is waiting to safely guide your child to the appropriate playground. You may help your child out of the car if needed. For the safety of all children, please park in a lot if you need to walk your child into school. Parking in the Kiss and Ride cannot be permitted for the safety of all. Thank You!
